Character History
Tess spent most of her childhood dogging every one of her brother Matt's steps, even following him into Ravenclaw a year after he entered the house. An occasionally sarcastic but generally friendly and well-meaning girl, she made friends with everyone but Ravenclaw Quidditch captains, as she refused to play Hogwarts Quidditch in all but two years, and even then had to be begged to do it. She partied mildly, socialized often, barely focused on her studies, and spent a good portion of her time either reading (fiction/poetry/etc), giggling with friends, or following Matt and his friends (Kenny, Dewi, etc) around.
Her deep and engrossing crush on Kenny Thicknesse was a very open secret, written all over her face and assuredly all over the rumoursjournal. They dated in secret for the entirety of her sixth year and his seventh (during which he did cheat on her several times) until he broke it off -- only close friends and family knew about the relationship until that point. The breakup devastated her and destroyed the very close friendship between Kenny and Matt, and Tess spent the next year engrossing herself in NEWT study, pretending it didn't happen at all.
Tess went into a low-level Ministry job and played English U21 upon leaving Hogwarts. She dated and was briefly engaged to Gabriel Spinnet (her father had insisted all along, after all that she should move on and settle down with a good man, get married, and have some children). They broke their engagement relatively mutually. At this point, Tess accepted an offer from the Holyhead Harpies and joined the team, abruptly descending into a life of drunkenness and terrible men. A few variously abusive relationships in, she met Rosie Robins, who showed her the ropes of drinking and one-night stands, and they became quick friends.
Her father, Norbert, died in the Diagon Alley riots on May 20, 1978. This reconnected her with her family and briefly brought her out of drinking, but she inevitably fell back into old habits.
