Description
Rodolphus Lestrange stands at six feet, two inches tall and is broad-shouldered and heavyset. He could be considered very attractive with his noble, French features, bright blue eyes, and cropped brown hair, but his standoffish demeanor diminishes that considerably. He wears glasses and normally dresses in dark colors, black being his favorite. His skin is pale due to his lengthy hours spent in the Labs but when he does manage to go outside, however, he colors nicely.
Character History
A number of changes have been made to Rodolphus' character upon the introduction of new canon, which may make reading old logs confusing.
Prior to OotP (March '03–June '03 / August '75–October '75)
Prior to OotP (June 2003), Rodolphus' name was Gage, and he was hired as Potions Master of Hogwarts for the 1975-1976 school year. He was not asked to return due to the use of memory potions on students. It was not rare for Gage to lure female students into his office for 'out of class help.'
After OotP (June '03–July '05 / October '75–December '77)
After OotP was released, his name was partially changed to reflect the new canon, and he was entered into an arranged marriage with a teenage Bellatrix Black. They were originally married in the summer of 1976.
It was also during this time that he was informed by Andromeda Tonks that he was the father of Nymphadora Tonks, thanks to a relationship they were in in late 1975. It wasn't true, of course, as she also told the same thing to Sirius Black, and Ted Tonks. It was assumed then that Andromeda wasn't disowned and was very much part of the Black family.
He received the Dark Mark thanks to Lucius Malfoy not long after his marriage.
In August of 2004 (January 1977, gametime) Rodolphus underwent a player change and, therefore, a vast personality change. He was no longer flirtatious nor bisexual and now borderlined anti-social and shrewd, often holed up in his potions laboratory; was now deathly afraid of blood (explained in this log), and was, as Bellatrix was involved in an affair with Walden Macnair, involved with Shannon Deverill, a classmate of his from Slytherin.
Not long after, Rodolphus became involved in the affairs of St. Mungo's, thanks to Russell Dobbs, an administrator at the hospital. He often assisted in the euthanasia of several muggleborn and elderly patients.
He also assisted in the death of Gilbert Deverill, Shannon Deverill's elderly husband, their unborn child, and Lily Evans' parents.
After HBP (July '05–August '07 / December '77–January '80)
Due to information revealed about his wife's age in interviews with JK Rowling as well as the new canon in HBP, several things about Rodolphus' character changed.
*His marriage to Bellatrix would no longer be arranged and their relationship has changed drastically from what it was, as the age barrier no longer existed and, being in the same class and house, they had known each other for much longer. Their wedding date was officially changed to 15 July, 1973 from 1976.
*His affair with Shannon Deverill could no longer have taken place, as it was only to have occurred when Bellatrix was at school.
*It is still being debated, but his position as Potions master at Hogwarts is no longer part of his canon, thanks to the introduction of Horace Slughorn, his mentor and professor.
After HBP, Rodolphus bought an apothecary on Phine Alley and, with Bellatrix went on a mission for Voldemort to Transylvania to fetch vampires for his cause. It was then that he met Iulian, a British vampire who gained their trust and assisted them, and Atanasia, leader of the vampires who fed from Rodolphus in return for her vampires.
In early 1979, in this log, Rodolphus and his friends (Walden and Lucius) were involved in the deaths of the Pokeby family, as well as a neighboring family and two Aurors John Stephens and Sascha Borland, all in a night of fun. This is also the night that Walden used a gun he found in one of the Muggle households to shoot Rodolphus in the arm.
After DH (August '07-present / January 1980- Leviosa!Present)
He is now an alumnus of Ravenclaw House, 1969. He's also now the canonically heavy-set one of the two brothers and wears glasses. But the kicker here is that he's now working in the Labs at the DoMLE as a Potions Analyst. He's still just as purist and elitist as he always was, but he's not overly vocal about it because he's not overly vocal about anything at all anymore. He's a pretty quiet man. He was also Prefect.

Deep Dark Secrets Meme
Rodolphus, despite his fear of all things bloody, lost count at 116 of the number of people (muggles or otherwise) he's killed or been asked to kill with his potions, inadvertent deaths not included.

as of December 2004, most information is not relevant.
I think I'm going to start off by saying that this one has absolutely no virtues at all. Redeemable qualities, yes, in that he's got more sense than most of his peers, but there isn't anything good to be said of him at all, or any sense of conscience. Rodolphus kills without thinking twice about it and even goes so far to say that it gives him a thrill, and is only upset that he rarely gets to see the end result of his hard work, as most St Mungo's employees would rather he not accompany them on an autopsy, and he would rather not do that, considering the internal fluid factor.
Speaking of which, I think what shocks most of his friends/anyone to find out (and most of them don't know about this because he avoids it like the black plague and any instances in which it could become a problem, which is odd that people keep treating him like a wimp or whatever) that he's got a horrible case of hematophobia that all started with a mauling accident when he was about three. It was his Great Uncle, in fact, on his father's side, and it involved a whomping willow that the Lestranges used to keep on the estate in Bayeux. His Uncle happened to get too close after draining a bottle of wine and the subsequent blood from a well-placed swat to the elder man's neck showered Rodolphus, who was playing nearby, and ever since he's never been able to look at/ touch/ be near human blood or anything that looks like it. Unicorn blood and other such not-red liquids, he's fine.
As for the potions, he figures that it is the very easiest thing he could possibly do, and it is for him, he's very precise in what he does and very meticulate in how things are done in his household, which is why he goes through nearly three house elves a year, when most families use theirs for generations upon generations. None of them seem to fit what he likes enough for him to keep them. Whether he kills them or not is another story, because if he does, then it's by means of poisoning and then incineration.
I think I might have to take back what I said about him not more than one redeemable quality, because he's certainly got another, at least, only because of his brother. He adores him and can't help but do anything that Rabastan asks. That is, of course, within reason, but he knows that his brother's got a near-perfect mindset and wouldn't ask him to Pull a Walden and disregard Bellatrix for a muggle or something equally as horrendous. Being married to Bellatrix hasn't slowed down his promiscuity half as much as it should have, even though the only person he keeps going back to is Shannon Deverill. He doesn't feel anything for her, though, and therefore doesn't see the problem in simply having sex for the sake of those needs being met while his wife is away... not that while she's there she helps that in any way, shape, or form.
Scentmeme
Rodolphus smells of cigarettes and sandalwood. I think he smells the best (of the mun's characters), given all this, but I imagine him relaxing in a bathtub with sandalwood candles all around when he's not got his nose in the cauldron. Even though he insists that he keeps his nose away, as it's dangerous to put body parts into a cauldron. The cigarettes, however, are unavoidable, as he smokes quite a bit.
Boggart/Patronus/Mirror of Erised/Animagus meme
Maybe this is a little obvious to me, too, but the thing that Rodolphus is most afraid of, above all things, is blood. He would rather be killed by Voldemort for misservice than be coated in it or even see it; which sort of shows you just how deep this hatred/fear/Angst (the German word, not like, angstiness) goes, as he values being a Death Eater more than anything. To make the boggart (which would probably manifest itself in the form of himself, Bellatrix, or Rabastan covered in it) funny, though, I'm sure he'd turn it a different color or pretend like whatever it is that's covering them is really apple jam.
Rodolphus' patronus is probably a hawk. Something predatory and unforgiving, something that would mirror himself. It says in wiki that hawks are birds that hunt by sudden dashes from a concealed perch which is very much what Rodolphus does. He's vicious in his potion making and is hardly ever revealed to be the one that's done any killing at all. As for specifics, it would probably be a Besra, which relies solely on surprise for successful attacks.
If Rodolphus was to peer into the Mirror of Erised, he'd see himself, in Voldemort's highest esteem, standing atop piles upon piles of eyeless bodies, smirking back at himself. Of course, those bodies would be pale and drained of blood, but they would also be the bodies of every last half-blood and muggleborn witch and wizard in existence.
His animagus form, however would be something very sneaky, probably a snake. An extremely poisonous one, so most likely a black mamba. I think that fits him better than anything else; threatening and able to kill with only one bite to the human skin. When hunting small animals it delivers a single bite and backs off, waiting for the nerve toxin in its venom to paralyze the prey. ...does that not sound exactly like him? Delivering potions and poisons and then sitting back to watch what their effects are and waiting for the death of his victims. Definitely a black mamba.
