Character History
Murdag Gibbon doesn't know who her mother is, but she knows that she's a halfblood. She found out by accident, one night when she was young, when she overheard her half-sister Marelda and her father, Buidhe, talking about the future of the children. Marelda promptly caught her, eyes flashing, and demanded to know what she was doing awake so late. Murdag, as it turned out, was running a fever, and in subsequent days she fell ill.
The knowledge of her blood stayed with her forever, and rather unfortunately it appeared on her forehead during Secrets Day 1979. (At Octavian Flint's party following Secrets Day, Murdag snogged Thomas Hooper, beginning a relationship that lasted for 11 months. They broke up on 11 October 1980, the day before Murdag's 18th birthday, after Thomas Hooper touched Imogene Jacobs's skirt and Murdag's brother Milo gave Thomas a concussion.)
Murdag's very best friend is her younger brother, Milo Gibbon. They grew up together in the Outer Hebrides, where they live in the middle of nowhere on beautiful land overlooking the Atlantic. Both Murdag and Milo share a love of the house and the land. It's an unexpectedly stunning setting for a family that is best known for maintaining the mortuary. The brother and sister hide nothing from each other, and what Thomas Hooper dubbed a "Special fucking bond" has been rumored around Hogwarts to be an incestuous relationship. In spite of these rumors, their love is pure. Marelda cares about Milo more than anyone else in the world. The children spent much of their time outside and also, as they grew older, helped around the mortuary.
Aside from Milo, Murdag has few other close friends. She is seen most often in the company of Beauregard Marjoribanks, a friendship born out of a mutual lack of friends. She was an unlikely Gryffindor, sorted there in a fit of rebellion against her half-sister's expectation that she would become a Slytherin. She was particularly bright in the subjects Potions and Herbology. Starting in fifth year, she began to brew her own potions and sell them. Her business expanded through a delivery system of first years she paid, and she offered relatively cheap, easily accessible potions to Hogwarts students. She offered a "Muggleborn discount" to those who did not have easy access to magical currency. She also played Keeper for Gryffindor, but only half as well as she brewed Potions. She was an average Keeper. She was also known for sleeping on the floor of the 1981 boys' dormitory, which she started at the age of 13 years old when she simply could not abide by the ceaseless chatter of her dormmates: Madeline Frobisher, Amanda Hooper, Denise Nigul, and Hannah Figg.
Physically, Murdag is 5'5". She has long brown hair that she wears in a ponytail when she is brewing Potions. She has blue eyes. She is also known for the size of her breasts, which are a size D. She is curvy. In spite of constant berating from her half-sister Marelda, Murdag's most comfortable position is a slouch. Murdag does wear makeup - dark eye makeup and sometimes lipstick. She paints her nails dark colors: green, red, or black, although now she wears red most often when she is at work. This practice is useful in preventing damage to her nails by potions ingredients.
Murdag is a quiet, understated person. She thinks, but she only talks when spoken to. She is naturally curious about the Dark Arts, although she hardly has time to pursue them at present. Nor would she want to, really, she's far too level-headed to pursue the Dark Arts under the nose of her MLE employers. She also knows that dabbling in the Dark Arts can have lasting negative effects. Further, she must respect Marelda's wishes. Murdag would someday like to marry and improve her family's social standing, but she does not expect that day to come. She thinks her first and last relationship was with Thomas Hooper... and isn't that a depressing thought. She thinks of herself as too plain, too smart, and too half - even though her children would be pure. Murdag accepts life as it comes, however it comes, and she does the best with what she has. She will take on anything, anytime, anywhere - and it is that trait which makes her a Gryffindor.
After Murdag left Hogwarts, she took a job as a Labs trainee in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. However, she soon discovered that she could not tolerate working so closely with her cousin Chalmers, so instead she moved to Forensics. She worked there until her cousin Chalmers Gibbon was turned over to the Dementors on 16 November 1981. She then began to apply for jobs in other places and took a position as a secretary for the Department of Mysteries.

Milo and Murdag's parentage is a secret. As far as the public knows, they are raised by their father and their mother is noticeably absent. Murdag had "I am a halfblood" written on her forehead at Secrets Day, but she herself is not certain of her parentage because Marelda and her father never told the children their mother's identity.
In February 1981, Corliss Aubrey bought a contraceptive concoction from Murdag Gibbon on an emergency basis. Murdag replaced the contraceptive concoction with a fertility potion, and as a result, Corliss Aubrey became pregnant with Geoffrey Hooper. Corliss no longer remembers the details of this interaction, and the only person who knows that Murdag got Corliss pregnant on purpose is her devoted brother, Milo Gibbon.
