One: What characters should know about your character. What they infer from that is up to them.
Mordecai Sweeting is a sixth year Ravenclaw, an excellent Beater on the House team, and somewhat of a history geek. He does very well in his classes, though he is not exactly at the top of them; he would much rather play Quidditch than keep up with most of his out of class work.
Fellow Ravenclaws would probably know that History of Magic is his favorite subject, followed closely by Muggle Studies. He enjoys Professor Pinkstone's class immensely and is very attentive in it.
They would also probably notice that he swears a lot. He tries to keep it in check and unless he's shouting it isn't ever malicious, just emphatic.
He also very much likes to touch and be touched. Any sort of physical contact is fine with him and he may or may not realize that there could be personal boundary issues.
Eoin and Bex are definitely the only ones that would know about their naked, mid-winter jaunt on brooms these last hols, as well.
Two: What characters should not know about your character. This should be adhered to firmly.
Mordecai is gay. This is not something that everyone in the world knows; I doubt more than, say, Eoin, Bex, Gilly, and Nicola know/suspect. He has not once acted upon it, and in fact just realized it earlier this year. He is not flamboyant. He might come off as a flirt, but the only problem is that he flirts with everyone he likes. Not just the boys.
And there are only two boys that he likes, anyhow, and one of those already knows it. The other never will.
He is one of those people that does not have to study for his classes so long as he takes notes in them. He rarely tries very hard at anything academic and is very good at sitting exams. It would probably be obvious to anyone who cared enough to notice that he has a LOT of free time on his hands.
Mordecai is also one of those purebloods who doesn't care about purity. His parents don't care about purity. It's something that he doesn't want to come up so he doesn't ever have to discuss it.
Partial 100 Questions Meme (in the character's own words)
1. What is your full name?
Mordecai Joshua Sweeting
2. Where and when were you born?
I was born 29 August 1963 at home in Liverpool, England. (Yes, I have heard the Beatles play in utero in the Cavern Club.) Pretty soon after, I was in St. Mungo's. Don't worry.
3. Who are/were your parents?
My parents are Aeron and Melicent Sweeting. Dad runs a grocery on Diagon Alley and Mum works at the ministry in the Accidental Magic Reversal department. They're both pure, but not so Pure that they've got to stick it in everyone's faces.
4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
I've got one younger sister, Melora. She's a doll, of course. She's only six, though, and I'm sure if she were any older I'd think she was a terror on two feet. She's adorable and likes to play with dolls. I fear for the boys when she gets older. She takes after her older brother, see.
5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
Right now, at this very moment, I live in the Ravenclaw dormitories of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It's blue, very blue. I adore it all, from the dark wood floors right to the gauzy silk curtains. I've seen other Houses and let me tell you: Ravenclaws are the luckiest as far as decoration goes.
Anyway, as for who I live with, I live with the other Ravenclaws, but in my dormitory, I've got my best mate Eoin Breckenridge, our nouveau brilliant Seeker, Tor Robards, and Mr. Robert Cornfoot, who is a bookworm but we will forgive him that.
6. What is your occupation?
Student and the best bloody Beater anyone's seen since Fabian Flint. That man was a brilliant Beater.
7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
All right, let's see. I stand about five feet, ten inches tall, weigh about ten stone, have a muscular build but still obnoxiously lean about it, longish brown hair that hangs just so without any need for charms or potions (most girls are pretty jealous of that when I tell them, so let's keep it a secret, yeah?), big brown eyes, fair skin which is usually tanned because of so much Quidditch practise (and I love it, never let me tell you otherwise) I've got a few sparse freckles on my nose and arms, a scar on my right leg from a Quidditch accident in third year, a scar on my eyebrow from running into the coffee table too many times when I was learning to walk, and I dress like most other students do: school robes for school, trousers and a shirt when it's the week-end.
8. To which social class do you belong?
I'd say upper middle. (Learned that in Muggle Studies, I did!)
9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
Ah, no. I'm fit as a-- well. I'm fit. And healthy.
10. Are you right- or left-handed?
Ambidextrous. But my handwriting looks loads better when I use my right hand.
11. What does your voice sound like?
Probably rather normal, I'd say. I've got a pretty obvious Liverpudlian accent, though, and most people probably don't think that's too normal.
12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
You know, I curse rather a lot. More than I ought to, I'm sure. I call Bex 'love' a lot.
13. What do you have in your pockets?
There's nothing in my pockets right now, I just put these trousers on. I don't usually have much in there until the end of the day when I've got bits and scraps of paper with notes and sometimes a few knuts to pay the Prophet owl or some wrappers when there's not a bin nearby.
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
I like to touch things. I think they say I'm called a tactile learner. I like hands-on things, if I'm close to someone, I'll touch them. I don't think most people like it, but there it is. I love hugs and I give them freely, even to Eoin but only after we got past our Awkward stage after he found out I've got a bit of a fancy for him.
If it's not obvious, I get off track sometimes, too. I'm not obsessive-compulsive or anything, though, so I haven't got too many odd things about me.
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
I had a happy childhood. My parents loved me, I'm well-adjusted and treat people nicely. I don't think most adults would consider it quite over yet, so let's just call it a work in progress and I'll get back to you when I'm of age. Which is in about eight months.
16. What is your earliest memory?
Let me just say with this that I have a SHITE memory. But I remember being Sorted. And I kind of remember breaking my arm when I was nine. But if my life depended on this question, I'd be dead.
17. How much schooling have you had?
Nearly six years of it. Not counting what Mum taught me before I got here to Hogwarts. I've got OWLs in six subjects: Charms, History of Magic (which I love, everyone else can kiss my arse), Herbology, Defense, Astronomy, and Muggle Studies (which I also love, kiss my arse) and Es and Os in the lot.
18. Did you enjoy school?
Love it.
19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
Here at school, I'd say. Though, Dad had to keep my Magic in line when I was younger. I loved turning animals different colours, apparently.
