Martin Avery is a pureblood Slytherin prefect who really likes magical creatures, maybe even a little too much. He went out with Meg McCormack for a while at the beginning of their fifth year, which ended with her leaving him (mostly) naked outside of Gryffindor. He is generally quiet and dorky, and is good friends with Evan Rosier. His little sister was kidnapped in February 1978, probably by werewolves, as covered in the Daily Prophet and Witch Weekly. His father is a Ministry department head. Cousin of the Flints.

General Knowledge of Yearmates/Housemates:

Owns a toad named Xerxes. Studious and very good at Care of Magical Creatures; not particularly good at Potions or wand-based subjects (e.g., Charms, Transfig.). Spends a lot of time in the library. Generally, sort of depressive, reticent, and occasionally surly, and more so since his sister's abduction.

General Knowledge of Roommates:

Politically neutral/undecided, or at least the only one of them who is not a part of the Cause. Evan has talked to Martin about this, and while their roommates may not know any particulars, they may kind of have an inkling of this. (Evan is not exactly the most subtle person, let's face it.) Evan probably doesn't know much more than his roommates do, although they spend a fair amount of time together. He probably does know that Martin's aunt is an Unspeakable, though.

Secrets:

I'm tempted to make this something his roommates would know, but it depends on how observant they are: Under enough pressure, he'll comply with whatever will keep him out of trouble at present.

He is really upset about his sister's disappearance, but is the sort to just wallow instead of doing anything about it. He is also truly on the fence about blood purity issues, but to a large extent he doesn't really care. Vaguely homophobic.
