Character History

Family History

Terence Edwards was a pureblood of the upper middle class who began an import/export business right out of Hogwarts with the money he'd saved, in 1911. Edwards Imports became successful and worked with several countries. His business style was very personalised in that Terence kept the majority of the power and work in his own hands, and his personality was integral to the success of Edwards Imports. He had two sons, Charles (called Charlie) in 1931, and David in 1938.

Terence died mysteriously in 1959, and the business for the most part fell through; neither son was really capable of mocking up their father's business style. Charlie and David continued running Edwards Imports, each owning half of the business, but it never saw its former glory. Once a name seen on the lists of the Malfoy ball invites, the Edwardses are considered a pure, but fallen, family.

In 1960, David met and fell in love with a girl named Sara Reese; he only realized she was a Muggle two months into their relationship, having never met nor cared about Muggles previously; at that he set Sara up in a nice Muggle flat to hide her away from his brother Charlie, who was growing increasingly more purist. Not six months into their relationship, Sara announced that she was pregnant; David just grew even more protective, but to no avail. When she did bear their son, Hank Terence Edwards, on December 15, 1961, she died only fifteen minutes later. David declined to have her name written on the birth certificate. He took his halfblood son home and raised him alone, for fear that his blood status might become public in an increasingly purist world.

Hank grew up knowing his mother was dead, but little else about his origins; he knew his uncle and about Edwards Imports, that he would own it one day, but many facts of the past were obscured. He grew up an intellectual, quiet, and scarily tidy child, but a happy one. Charlie aligned himself with the Death Eaters in 1971, and told his brother nonchalantly a few months later.

Right before Hank was poised to enter Hogwarts, David sat his son down and told him about his Muggle mother, his Uncle Charlie's allegiance to the Death Eaters and possible knowledge of Sara's lack of magic, and the importance of keeping this secret. He was a bastard child, he was a halfblood, and he would have to be exceedingly careful. Hank accepted this as a matter of course in his usual quiet way, but the ambition of surviving despite the obstacles before him saw a predictably Ravenclaw Hank Edwards be Sorted into Slytherin upon his arrival there.

For Player Knowledge (FPK)

Upon leaving Hogwarts, Hank received 51% of the shares of Edwards Imports from his father (who bought the other one percent from his brother's wife at a point when the two were nearing divorce), and is currently technically the owner of the enterprise.

Of course, this isn't public news in the least. Hank sits on the board along with his uncle and father, in a spot that is presumably purely for the heir to the company to have some on-the-job training. At this point Hank could seize control whenever he liked, but come on, it's Hank.
