Character History

Garman has often been mistaken for his brother Chad throughout his time at Hogwarts. Now that he is a seventh year and his brother is out of the school, it is easier to differentiate between the two boys.

Garman was born to a wizarding father, hit wizard Andrew Poke, and a Muggle mother, Sally Lofton. When he was six years old, on 12 December 1970, his father was tortured into insanity for failing to cooperate with the Death Eaters. Most of Garman's strongest memories of his father are of visiting him in the Janus Thickey ward with his brother and his mother, until the hospital disallowed Muggle visitation.

Garman grew up with a constant sibling rivalry with his brother. Chad had to win every argument and do everything better than his younger brother, Garman, who always had to keep up and do whatever Chad was doing. Garman learned to read at the same time that Chad did, although he was a year younger, and the boys swallowed whole any books they could get their hands on. Both boys studied hard and competed with each other in their studies. When their mother was working as a nurse at the local hospital, the boys sat at home, did their homework, read, and watched the telly. Chad was responsible for making sure that the boys ate and did their chores, and for that reason, Garman always had to clean the bathroom, and on one occasion, the boys ate raw noodles for dinner.

When Chad went to Hogwarts, Garman found it relaxing but lonely living at home by himself. The burden of all of the household chores fell onto him, and he spent more time than ever reading and studying for classes. He had friends at school, but he had always come home to his brother in the evenings, and while he and his brother didn't always get along, Garman missed having him around. He has a very clear understanding that he is the baby of his family, and as much as he liked to compete with his older brother, he liked being the youngest just as much as Chad liked being the oldest.

Garman and his mother were both relieved when Garman went to Hogwarts and was Sorted into Ravenclaw. His mother was heartbroken at losing both of her boys, but she felt that they would be safer at school. Garman rejoined his brother, Chad, and made friends with his roommates. He studied hard, like he had at home, and he made good marks in his classes. He kissed Ayati Iyer during his third year, and that is the closest he has ever come to a relationship. He reeks of nerd - he studies, he reads for fun, and he likes to run, but otherwise he doesn't have the coordination or the skill to be athletic. He is skinny and probably about 5'11, the same height as Chad.

Garman is currently the founder (or reviver) of Arithmancy Club, and he enjoys reading, maths, and spending time with his friends.

The torture of Andrew Poke was a widely-publicized event in 1970. While the older generation might remember it more strongly than the younger generation, it is no secret what happened. Andrew Poke is known to the Janus Thickey ward and any Healers who regularly visit. The Janus Thickey Healers have surely seen Garman and his brother Chad visiting the ward.
