Character History
The Montagues
A noble and ancient clan in France, the Montagues hold a great deal of power in the French wizarding community. They are like the Mulcibers in family size, though they are wealthier. Loyal to money above any political affiliation or cause, Montagues tend to stay neutral when it comes to muggleborn/pureblood issues. If a family member were to marry one with "impure" blood, however, they would be disowned.
The British Montagues, however, are outspokenly Anti-Muggleborn, and Death Eater-affiliated. They are also in the hub of the social scene of the younger aristocracy. The exclusive monthly parties at the Montague Manor rival the Malfoy Balls in grandeur and style.
Elita's Family
Gautier Montague, the fourth-born male in his family, moved to England after finishing at Beauxbatons to create his own fortune and reputation. He met Marie Moon while working for the French ambassador, and the couple were soon married. They had two children, Gallant and much later, Bridgette. But as Gautier eventually became French ambassador, he had more opportunities to travel... and eventually he found a younger woman in France, Vedette Delacour, who soon became his mistress.
In 1966, Gallant's muggle fiancee Sally took the whole family for a ride in her car. They hit a truck. The collision killed Gallant, Marie, and Sally. Bridgette was severely injured and Gautier was physically unharmed. Emotionally, though, he shut down and devoted his life to eradicating the muggle/muggleborn menace. He married Elita's mother, Vedette, when Elita was five and has lived the stereotypical rich pureblood lifestyle ever since.
As Vedette's little darling, Elita has been in the atmosphere of champagne, expensive dress robes, and gossip for as long as she can remember. She's always been tiny, but she started wearing makeup and glamour charms at age seven and has been ballroom dancing since she was eight. In her opinion, she's more than ready to become an adult.
She's bored easily, a manipulation queen, overeager, overconfident, overdressed. She does everything for the sake of getting attention. After living in a fantasy world for so long, her view of the life has become quite warped, which might lead her to situations that are over her head.
Description
Elita grew up at a very young age. She learned how to gossip (in English and French) before she learned how to walk. She learned of the dark side of pureblood society and when she went to Hogwarts, she knew how to manipulate people and exploit their secrets. She became quick friends with Cora Mulciber and later Rosalind Bletchley and the three of them, for years, terrorized the students at Hogwarts - removing Abby Spinks's hair, picking fights with Gilly Quigley and Palmer Pinkstone, ostracizing and demoralizing roommate Julia Flint. No one was safe from Elita's creative ideas for torture and her violent temper tantrums. She celebrated the deaths of halfbreeds, Mudbloods, and Muggles, championed the Death Eater cause, and became heavily involved in a relationship with Regulus Black.
After his death in December 1979, her life changed. He left his journal detailing the abuses of the Dark Lord and his disgust at the actions of the Death Eaters. Regulus had almost surely betrayed them and left her to navigate the realities of blood politics alone.
Disillusioned, disaffected, and disinterested, Elita buried herself in her studies. She became disenchanted with pureblood society - no one could replace Regulus, and she had no interest in being the trophy wife of anyone else. The Hogwarts students bored her, and she turned her attention to becoming Head Girl. When it became clear that that position would go to Jill Davies, Elita gave up entirely, relying on the one ambition she had left: become a Cursebreaker and leave her past (and the people in it) behind.
But first, she has to survive seventh year in a school that has neither forgiven nor forgotten her reign of terror.
On 22 August 1981, Elita Montague invited Octavian Flint to the Malfoy Midsummer Ball as a devil-may-care, fuck-the-world, last-minute ball date. She and Octavian watched Evan Rosier, Decian Wilkes, and Martin Avery leave the ball prematurely. Octavian decided to go to the Ministry of Magic to warn Alastor Moody of what he had seen. Elita came with him, and became indirectly and unintentionally responsible for the events that followed. She testified to these facts in Courtroom #10 on 12 April 1981.
She was tortured on 14 April 1981 by Death Eaters Thorfinn Rowle, Anthony Baddock, Rosalind Bletchley, and Caedmon Gibbon. They left her outside of St Mungo's, where she was found by hit wizard Gabriel Spinnet. Elita was Obliviated of who tortured her.
Elita is determined, ambitious, and unapologetic. She is firm, sly, and unyielding. Unless you have done something for her lately, she probably won't lift a finger to help you.
For Player Knowledge (FPK)
It is only known to Thorfinn Rowle, Anthony Baddock, Rosalind Bletchley, Caedmon Gibbon, and whoever they wish to inform that they tortured Elita.
The fact that Palmer and Elita are sleeping together is widely unknown, the people who do know are:
Callisto Smith, Viva Pritchard, Crispin Switch, Lisa Podmore, Jane Murray, Everild Pinkstone, Seth Kirke, Hebe and Jacob Wiggleswade, Alastor Gumboil, and John Fleecer. (Alan Mulciber knows something is going on, he prefers just not to find out the particulars.) They are relatively decided to keep the information to themselves. As far as most everyone else should be concerned, Elita has just started dating Palamon Marchbanks. However, she and Palamon have agreed just to show up at social functions together and go on a few dates here and there. Only Bertram and Dan know the specifics of the arrangement between Elita and Palamon if only because they were afraid she had Imperiused him. If anyone ever asks who Elita has been out with, even if it is Palmer, she tells them Palamon.
