Description
No one tries harder than Charissa Tugwood. She is always striving to be the perfect person and please everyone around her. She is a good listener, considerate, and often kind. She is sometimes quick to judge and easily disturbed.
Charissa loves her best friends Lisa Podmore and Jane Murray dearly, but she has a difficult time trusting much of anyone else. She has held onto these friends in spite of their less-than-pure status. She is also friendly with the other Ravenclaws in her year. She can also be found in the company of that pure 1980 clusterfuck. She does not approve of the inappropriate things that they say and do. She did not associate with them during her time at Hogwarts any more than was necessary because she did not like the improper way in which they behaved, but she has since come to terms with it and tolerates them because they are the right sort of friends for her to have. She also knows that they will protect her halfblooded friends from those who would wish to do them harm.
Charissa left school and went home briefly for two weeks before she went to live with her cousin, Olivia. She currently lives in that flat, and it was through Olivia's best friend, Bridget Bobbin, that she met Abner Abercrombie. They met in a robes shop, and Olivia and Bridget encouraged them to date. Charissa saw it as a growing friendship in spite of obvious evidence to the contrary, which came falling on her head when Francis Longbottom, to whom she had been tentatively "agreed" to marry, and Corliss Aubrey found them eating dinner together. Drama ensued, and Francis and Charissa quietly agreed to go their separate ways.
Before her agreement with Francis Longbottom, Charissa was arranged to Daniel Mulciber, an arrangement that was made when the children were six years old. Daniel was far too coarse for Charissa to tolerate during school, but she did as she was told while Daniel took advantage of her social absence. He started to date Michelle Dobbs and broke off the arrangement with Charissa's consent. This continues to be a sore issue in the Selwyn family and between Charissa and Daniel.
Charissa is the darling niece of Stuart and Maisie Davies. When she was not with one childhood group of friends, she was with another - visiting with the Barbarys, Warringtons, Hoopers, and Davieses. She has always been a perfectly behaved little girl - often naive, and very quick to make excuses for those she loves.
On the flip side of that coin, if she does not love you ... she is also half-Selwyn. She can be prone to thinking bad things about those she does not care for, although she does not think it is appropriate to voice these opinions. Charissa does not like gossip, but in her world, she finds it unfortunately unavoidable.

Charissa Tugwood is the daughter of Yoland Tugwood and Elizabeth Selwyn Tugwood. Their marriage is an unhappy one, and this is public knowledge. When Yoland and Elizabeth are together, there are no signs of mutual affection, only of forced tolerance and perhaps a cheering charm on one or both of them.
It is also public knowledge that Elizabeth can be brash, strong-willed, and very set in her ways. What is not public knowledge is that Elizabeth can be susceptible to fits of rage and abusive of her daughter, Charissa. Charissa has been physically and emotionally abused by her mother, but this is known only to Jane Murray, Lisa Podmore, and Wesley Barbary, who has been called upon to oversee Charissa's medical care. Charissa moved out of her parents' house because of this abuse, and no one knows the reason she moved, either.
Yoland Tugwood was engaged to be married to Christina Selwyn Urquhart in the late 1950s. On 29 April 1958, on the day of the wedding, Elizabeth Selwyn (or one of her family, "who" has never been properly identified) placed a love potion in Yoland's drink and tricked him into marrying her instead. Once the love potion had been removed, the damage had been done. The Selwyn family, who were concerned about their ability to marry Elizabeth off, insisted that the nuptials remain as they were. The reasons that Yoland married Elizabeth instead of Christina are secret, even Charissa does not know them, although society has been gossipping for years about what really happened. Everybody has a theory, and they grow more and more involved all the time.
