Description

Just like his brothers and sisters, Bracer has dark hair, dark eyes, and fair skin. He stands at a slight (comparing to most of the rest of his siblings) five-feet, seven inches tall. He's well-dressed enough, but he doesn't put a lot of thought into what he wears. He embraces the side of him that is Muggle and especially loves playing Atari, watching films and listening to records when he's at home over the holidays.

He's very intelligent and mathematics-oriented, though he doesn't always choose to show it. He talks a lot (especially compared to the other boys in his class) to anyone who will listen and can be very overdramatic at times, especially when he feels he's being teased. He goes quiet when he's offended, choosing not to say much at all to his own defense, though he is quick to come to the defense of those he loves. It takes him getting used to people in order to understand that they may be joking or to even feel comfortable around them, but when he does, he is easy-going and pleasant to be around if not self-centered, though he often acts immaturely in that he's constantly awed by the things that people do and say and is very excitable. He also tends to resist the idea that there is a war going on around him, even though he's been attacked by another student for being a halfblood who found good friends in the Purebloods of his House.

He's been marked by Professor Sprout to follow in the field of Healing (much like his sister Ballista) and after encouragement from his oldest brother, he intends to do just that (especially after being shown time and time again that the people in the DoMLE, where two of his siblings are employed, do nothing but pry into others' lives-- something that he is okay with most of the time, it just isn't for him). And despite feeling like he's being examined from all corners by his family for being the youngest, he loves them dearly.

He also has nice legs.

Character History

Bracer grew up in Penzance, Cornwall with his parents, Laurel and Danilo Bowman and his siblings Archer, Ballista, Arbalest and Fletcher. Bracer attended a Muggle primary school in Penzance where his father is Headmaster. He excelled there though didn't make many friends due to the fact that he was 'different' and always getting the other children into trouble. He always knew that he was a wizard (thanks to being born when his oldest brother was ten; there were wands being used in the Bowman household since he was old enough to understand what they were) so the fact didn't bother him and he looked very much forward to receiving his letter on his eleventh birthday.

At home, he keeps several exotic fish in a large aquarium in his room, something his mother turned him on to thanks to a fieldtrip with his school to the Aquarium when he was seven (she's also kind enough to feed them while he is away at school). He's also rather tidy when it comes to keeping his belongings in order; he doesn't like messes and sometimes goes out of his way to fix things that might be askew.

Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Bracer was sorted into Hufflepuff and has done well in all of his subjects, though best in Arithmancy, Herbology and Potions. He found out soon that he was also quite good at flying and finally made the Hufflepuff Quidditch team in his sixth year as Keeper, an achievement he only wanted because the rest of his siblings had played.

It was also not until sixth year that his brother Archer took the position of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor-- an idea he was fine with until he started befriending the other professors.

For Player Knowledge (FPK)

One: What characters should know about your character. What they infer from that is up to them.

Hogwarts students: Would know that he is, indeed, their DADA professor's youngest brother. The sixth years would know that he does not take Defense. They would possibly also know that he is a bit of a strange cookie and prone to loud outbursts of either shouting (not necessarily angry shouting) or laughing with his friends. It takes some time for him to get to know people and become well-acquainted enough for them to see the silly side of his sense of humor rather than the dry side and he might come off as sarcastic and cynical. Anyone who would be looking closely at him enough to care would also know that he's aiming to be a Healer and does very well in his classes.

Hufflepuffs would know that he likes to spend a lot of time on the sofas in the common room reading (They would not know, however, that this is implicitly because he doesn't like spending time with his dormmates).

He has done some crazy things, but he's also a very sweet kid and a HUGE, HUGE (I can not stress this enough) geek.

Closer friends: (ie, Imogene, Jill, Charlotte, Lance, maybe, too?) Know about his recurring insomnia and that he likes to talk. A lot. They would also know that while he isn't much for the drugs that go around their House, he can drink his share (though he can't hold it very well. They'd know that, too.) They would probably also know, now that he's had a chance to confide in him, that he feels terribly for the way he acted at Fletcher's wedding.

Family: I don't think that there is a single thing that Bracer has done that someone in his family doesn't know. If you think it's happened and, feasibly, it could have; it probably has. And then someone probably told the others so that everyone knows.

They would know about his childhood, literally every second of his life from the time he was born until he boarded the train for Hogwarts, and how he did very well in mathematics but was not well-liked by his peers because of his differences. They would know that he is a BIG dreamer and has been encouraged to be since day one.

Arbalest would probably know a lot more about which sorts of toys he liked to play with more than others, and what his favorite thing to do at the park was (sliding and swinging). I suspect that she also knows his quirks a lot more intimately than the others do, i.e. that he likes to sleep on his side, that he likes his Oreos dunked in milk only after the cream's been licked off, etc.

Two: What characters should not know about your character. This should be adhered to firmly.

No one at school except Imogene (and Archer, Jill, Charlotte, and Eve) would know about Bracer's affinity for all things Muggle, nor that he spent all hols playing Atari. Or that he's very much dreaming of a perfect picket-fence, two kids and a dog sort of life.

Relevant Memes

Sight and sound meme

1. Bracer's voice is deeper than he looks like it would be. His accent is also a little thick and definitely Cornish. He's loud (even when whispering, he has a tendency to stage-whisper) and speaks quickly. When he's upset or angry, his voice goes loud and snappish and he enunciates very well. I've noticed that he doesn't really do quiet all that well.

Bracer Bowman can also whine with the best of them and gets obnoxiously nasal when he does.

2. This is pretty much Bracer. (Except for the glasses. He is ALWAYS wearing his glasses, no matter what the icon looks like. He hands-down can't see without them.) He's got the typical Bowman dark hair and eyes, is very young-looking (which could possibly be taken as effeminate), has a few spots, his hair is short and he's almost always smiling. He's skinny, but has a slightly stocky build rather than the tall, lankiness of some of his siblings. Despite what I said earlier, I don't really see him as being very tall or even getting anywhere near as tall as Archer, Ballista, and Fletcher are; I think he got more of Arbalest's genes. He only stands maybe 5'7" (give or take half an inch) tall. He does care what he looks like, though (now especially), and is always clean (except after practice).

Partial 100 Qs meme

1. What is your full name?

Bracer Kaelán Bowman

2. Where and when were you born?

I was born at West Penzance Hospital on 29 November 1962 at around lunchtime but I am pretty sure that Mum and Papi went to the hospital around breakfast time after Mum was making waffles. I am not sure why she was making waffles at the time especially since I am supposed to be born, but I was early by a couple of weeks because I was really supposed to be born in December.

3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

My Mum is Laurel and her last name used to be Bradley and she's very nice and sisters with Auntie Lexi, who isn't as nice but at least Jeffrey and Dagny are. She used to take pictures for the Daily Prophet when the war with Grindelwald was going on and then she met Papi who was in the RAF (that means Royal Air Force) at the time but they got married and had Archer awhile after that. ANYWAY Mum still takes pictures sometimes for Muggle magazines and has she has had pictures in National Geographic once or twice. Papi is Headmaster at Penzance Primary, which is also where I went to Primary but thankfully by the time I was in Year Three he was already Headmaster because it is really awful having someone you are related to as a teacher.

4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

I have Archer (who is the oldest and my Defence professor even though I don't really want to take Defence. He is married to Mary and Mary is having a Marshmallow {HAHA I CAN SAY WHAT I WANT HERE NYEAH}), Ballista (who is going to be a doctor even though she is already a Quidditch Healer and is also dating a boy who owns a comic book shop but who is also a Wizard even though we thought he was a Muggle at the time but he likes X-Men a lot and Star Wars so he is OKAY.), Arbalest (who is my very favourite sister and we are very close and she has always been there for me and I love her very much), and Fletcher (who is an Auror and an arse and is married to Anna who is having triplets. Sorry Anna.)

5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

Right now I live in Hufflepuff in the sixth year boy's dormitory with Lance, Emerson, Ravi, and sometimes Imogene because she likes to sleep in my bed with me.

6. What is your occupation?

Student and Keeper for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team even though I really don't want to be especially not right now because there is a chance that Ravenclaw could get into the final with us and they are scarier than Slytherin.

7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.

I'm not very tall (I'm only a couple of inches taller than Imogene and she likes to wear heels so sometimes I'm shorter than Imogene) and I have black hair that I keep pretty short considering most everyone else, I've got brown eyes and fair skin and I guess I'm nice looking save for the glasses. I like my clothes and I try to match but since I see things differently, Mum used to help me pick out outfits so Uniforms are really convenient because I don't have to match those.

8. To which social class do you belong?

The regular one. I'm probably not considered high-class by Wizarding standards because I'm half-blood. I have a lot of stuff, though, compared to most people. We are pretty okay off, I guess.

9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

No, not really. Unless you count me being very farsighted and colourblind.

10. Are you right- or left-handed?

Right-handed.

11. What does your voice sound like?

Fletcher said once I sounded like a girl, but I don't sound like a girl. I sound normal. My voice is actually kind of deep. I think he's just jealous.

12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?

I tell Imogene that I love her a lot. That is really the only thing that I say a LOT.

13. What do you have in your pockets?

Nothing. I don't like having things in my pockets unless they're my hands.

14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

I don't like drinking out of straws and I can't eat cherries or grapes if there are seeds in them. That creeps me out. I also really like tropical fish and stargazing and cuddling.

15. How would you describe your childhood in general?

It was good. I spent a lot of it alone because all of my siblings were away at school, but I had a few friends from Primary school that I liked to play with and Arbalest would always take me to the park when she was home for hols. I spent a lot of time watching television and with puzzlebooks that Papi would buy at the shop on the corner. I still like to do puzzlebooks and Mum sends me one when I tell her that I've finished what I already had.

16. What is your earliest memory?

Fletcher stuffing me in his armoire when I was three. I don't think he ever really liked me being around since it took away from him being the youngest. I've been a little afraid of armoires ever since.

17. How much schooling have you had?

A lot. I started at the Primary school when I was six and then when it was time to move on, I went to Hogwarts. I always really liked maths, but all Hogwarts has got as far as that goes is Arithmancy and sort of Potions, because there's all that measuring and conversions.

18. Did you enjoy school?

I think so. Primary school was a little strange to be in because I was very different from tall the other children but I tried not to be different and I've always been friendly but when I got to Hogwarts I was friends with the girls more than with the other boys but I guess that is always really how it has been because I was really close to Arbalest and Ballista more than Archer and Fletcher when I was small.

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

Either from my parents or siblings (before school) or else from school itself.
